The substituent R plays a crucial role in the reaction
of [η5:σ-Me2C(C5H4)(C2B10H10)]Ru(NCCH3)2 with Me3SiC⋮CR. If R = Me3Si, this reaction led to the isolation of the first
mononuclear bis(vinylidene)metal complex. If R = H, a vinylvinylidenemetal complex was generated.
