Cascade Synthesis of (E)-2-Alkylidenecyclobutanols

A facile, one-pot reaction cascade condenses 1,1,1-trichloroalkanes with α,β-unsaturated ketones to unexpectedly furnish moderate to good yields of (E)-2-alkylidenecyclobutanols.
