The lack of experimental tools to evaluate the deicing
performance
of newly developed weather modification agents hinders their further
development. Here, for the first attempt, the largest artificial climate
chamber in Asia (volume = 12000 m3) was employed and successfully
generated freezing rains. As a result, deicing properties of modified
aerosol catalysts could be revealed both qualitatively and quantitatively.
It was found that 96.98% of the formed glaze icing was inhibited and
transformed to snow after applying the catalyst. Such an artificial
climate chamber may be applicable for evaluating new weather modification
agents without the need for field experiments.
