Vapochromic Properties of Diethenylpyrrole with Naphthyl Tethers Induced by Formation of a Distorted Structure in the Solid State

We report a novel vapochromic compound composed of diethenylpyrrole and naphthyl tethers that does not include any rare metal. The compound shows a reversible fluorescence change upon exposure to tetrahydrofuran/toluene vapors in the solid state. We believe that the findings of our study will help design a compound showing vapochromic properties without the inclusion of any rare metal in the molecular skeleton.
