Nickel(0) cyclopropene complexes are usually only detected as reactive intermediates during the oxidative cyclization of cyclopropenes at the Ni(0) site. In contrast, it was possible to isolate and structurally characterize such a Ni(0) cyclopropene complex from the reaction of [(bipy)Ni(COD)] with dimethyl 3-methyl-3-tert-butyl-1-cyclopropene-1,2-dicarboxylate.
