The reaction of magnesocene, Cp2Mg, with
phenylisocyanate (1:4 equivalents) in thf solvent affords
[<i>trans</i>-{1,2-bis(<i>N</i>-phenylcarbamoyl)cyclopentadienylbis(thf)}magnesium]·4thf (<b>1</b>·4thf), the structure of which
has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
The structure of <b>1</b>·4thf provides evidence for a metal
tethering effect in the 1,2-selective formation of other bis-carbamoyl ligands similar to that reported in this work.
