Synthesis and Molecular Structure of [{(HBpz3)Rh(PPh3)(μ-Cl)2}2Ag]BF4 (Hpz = Pyrazole), a Heterotrinuclear Rh2Ag Compound with Square-Planar Silver(I)

Reaction of [(HBpz3)RhCl2(PPh3)] (Hpz = pyrazole) with silver salts AgA (A = BF4, NO3, SbF6) affords the unexpected heterotrinuclear compounds [{(HBpz3)Rh(PPh3)(μ-Cl)2}2Ag]A (A = BF4 (1), NO3 (2), SbF6 (3)). The compounds have been fully characterized by IR, 1H, 31P{1H}, and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopy and FAB+ mass spectrometry. The solid structure of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cation consists of two (HBpz3)RhCl2(PPh3) units bonded to a silver atom through two double μ-Cl bridges in an unusual distorted square-planar arrangement.
