The sequence phospholide ion → 1-functional phosphole → 2-functional-2H-phosphole → 2-functional phospholide ion is best carried out using the starting phospholide both as a reagent and a base. Using this technique, it is possible to create in one pot α-connected phosphole−silylene−phosphole, phosphole−silylene−thiophene, and phosphole−silylene−alkyne chains. When applied to a 1,1′-biphospholyl, this technique leads to a 2-phospholylphosphole.
