Reaction of Os₃(CO)₁₂ (or Os₃(CO)₁₀(NCPh)₂) with C₆₀ in the benzonitrile/o-dichlorobenzene solution at reflux produces Os₃(CO)₅(μ-NCHPh)(μ₃,η⁵-NCPhC₆₀C(C₆H₄)N)(μ,η⁴-C₆₀) (2) and Os₃(CO)₄(NCPh)(μ-NCHPh)(μ₃,η⁵-NCPhC₆₀C(C₆H₄)N)(μ,η⁴-C₆₀) (3), bearing an unprecedented fullerodiketimide ligand from 1,4-addition of two benzonitrile molecules to the C₆₀ cage.
