The cooperative assembly of a tetrahedral (Ti4L6)8– (L = embonate) cage and a penta-nuclear [Zn5(OH)3(H2O)5]7+ cluster unit results in an unprecedented cage-cluster-based metal–organic framework that features high stability and notable selectivity toward the separation of hydrocarbons.
