Boronic acids together with onium salts provide highly efficient organocatalysts for the conversion of CO<sub>2</sub> with epoxides into various cyclic carbonates in H<sub>2</sub>O under mild conditions. The combination of experimental and computational studies allows further understanding of this active organocatalytic system.
