Warming a solution of {(phen)Pd[η<sup>1</sup>:η<sup>2</sup>-CH(CH<sub>2</sub>SiEt<sub>3</sub>)CH<sub>2</sub>C(CO<sub>2</sub>Me)<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>CHCH<sub>2</sub>]}<sup>+</sup>[BAr<sub>4</sub>]<sup>-</sup> (<b>4</b>)
at −41 °C led to first-order decay (<i>k</i> = (4.7 ± 0.3) × 10<sup>-4</sup>
M s<sup>-1</sup>, Δ<i>G</i><sup>⧧</sup> = 17.1 ± 0.1 kcal mol<sup>-1</sup>) with formation of
the palladium cyclopentylmethyl complex (<b>5</b>) in 96 ± 10% yield (<sup>1</sup>H NMR).
