The readily prepared borenium salt [(I<i>i</i>Pr<sub>2</sub>)(BC<sub>8</sub>H<sub>14</sub>)][B(C<sub>6</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub>4</sub>] (<b>2</b>) [I<i>i</i>Pr<sub>2</sub> = C<sub>3</sub>H<sub>2</sub>(N<i>i</i>Pr)<sub>2</sub>]
is shown to activate H<sub>2</sub> heterolytically in the presence
of <i>t</i>Bu<sub>3</sub>P. Compound <b>2</b> also
acts as a catalyst for the metal-free hydrogenation of imines and
enamines at room temperature.
